Lancaster County Reassesses Property Taxes

Lancaster County Reassess Property Taxes

Lancaster County is reassessing all properties in the county for Real Estate Tax purposes.  The last reassessment was all the way back in 2005.  The reassessment was scheduled to occur back in 2013, but was postponed due to the instability of the real estate market at that time.

The aim of the reassessment is to update the value of all properties to current market value.  The new assessments will take effect on January 1st of 2018 and be used in calculating property taxes.

The county will mail you a preliminary notice of assessment in early March of this year.  If there are any inaccuracies in the information about your property you can call the county at 717-299-8381 to provide corrected information.

The final notice of assessment will be sent out around June 1st of this year.  If you are not satisfied with your final assessment, you have 40 days fro the mailing date of the final notice to appeal the assessed value.

Just because your property is reassessed does not mean that your taxes will go up.  Millage rate changes (tax rate changes) for your locality are subject to change as well for the 2018 tax year.

If you want to find out more information about the reassessment, or you would like to file an appeal, visit the Lancaster County Website.
